I started to the Rwenzoris (probably referred to by Ptolemy when he mentioned the ‘Mountains of the Moon’) as I was fascinated by the images and stories I had seen and read. It was more than yet another mountain trek to some distant peak. I wanted to see the place where mire meets ice, respectively to feel that moment when one steps into a swamp where mud is considerably deeper than one’s rubber boots. I wanted to stand on a peak and look in two directions of totally different landscape, in two countries. Weather allowing, I did it.
